Facebook Stories – Ah, so delightful!

Facebook is an integral part of millions of people around the world. More than 300 million people log in everyday to share a part of their lives in form of statuses, pictures and events. In the last one year, more often than phone calls, Facebook broke the news to me. Whether it was news about my old colleagues who were travelling to new places or old school mates who were expecting babies, Facebook let me cherish a lot of lovely moments online.

When there are 950 million people around the world using one platform to connect to so many people, there are bound to have few tales with some amazing twinkles somewhere. And Facebook is now conceding and sharing all those stories, which are extraordinary, quirky and thought provoking. Welcome to Facebook Stories.

The first story – shared on August 2nd, 2012 is called Remembering. It’s a poignant story of Mayank Sharma, New Delhi, India, who was diagnosed with meningitis at age 27 and there came a day when he had no memory. He woke up to not even remember his own reflection in the mirror. Slowly when he was able to use a computer he started reconnecting with the world with the help of ‘People You May Know’ feature on Facebook. He rebuilt his memories by adding friends and old acquaintance on this popular social networking site, and it was nothing less than a miracle to him. Watch The Remaining Pieces here

Mayank Sharma would probably tell you that going through meningitis is hell — if he could remember any of it.

On the official website Facebook editors tell of another interesting story where Facebook helped save a decaying landmark in Guelph, Ontario.

The Inspiration behind Facebook Stories:

Us, the users of Facebook. According to a Facebook spokesperson, the company receives enormous number of emails from users all around the world sharing stories of how they have used the site to reconnect long lost connections, overcome hardships in life and deliver social messages to the society. Hence, Facebook created a space where these stories can be read, shared and celebrated.

If you have got a story about an extraordinary way that you’ve used Facebook, you can submit it on their website and they may feature you in the upcoming issues.
